I've Been Tagged!
By Pressed at Avoiding Evil! 1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open the book to page 123 and find the fifth sentence. 3. Post the text of the next three sentences on your blog along with these instructions. 4. Don't dig for that 'cool' or 'intellectual' book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest. Technically this book was closer than the phonebook. I would've had to move my chair to grab the phonebook! For real! Labels: meme

*blink* ... *blink blink*
This book doesn't have a page 123. It ends on 118, with an index and bibliography on the next two pages. The 123rd page is there but absolutely blank! LOL For notetaking I guess. I also just admitted that I don't have notes written there! Ugh!
Well....meme over! That's all folks!

My 5 Most Listened To CDs of the Last 5 Days
I've been seeing this "meme" around on some blogs, and I find it somewhat interesting to see what others are listening to, or the CDs they list. What I find somewhat frustrating is knowing what the lists consist of? It seems that rarely does a person share what and why they have those particular titles listed. I mean, is this a Top 20 of all-time? Is this what is currently in your player? Is this a list of your least favorite? What are people listing? Labels: entertainment, meme
This is what I've been listening to for the past five days. I've been switching between them all, just finished the Plumb monopoly in favor of Flyleaf at the moment. Disciple and POD keep ending up and there somewhere for variety and Chris Tomlin is the standby when it's time to focus on God and worship Him.

Thanks to The Memes List For This One
I want to blog today. I have nothing to say. Labels: meme
I googled for a meme. Question: Is "googled" in the dictionary yet?
So, thanks to The Meme List, I found a prompt called Spark.Share some of your opinions on the concept of friendship.
What kind of people do you surround yourself with as your friends? Do you find yourself more comfortable with people your own age, or does that matter? Do you like to surround yourself with lots of people, or do you like to have a smaller, more tight-knit group around?
How easy or difficult is it for you to meet new people and make new friends? Is it easier or harder to make friends using the Internet, and what kind of positive effect has meeting friends online had on your life? What are the greatest kindnesses a friend has shown to you?
I value friendship. I wouldn't say that I have a lot of close friends, one or two is good enough for me. I do have many aquaintances, many are those I called sisters or brothers in the Christ. I am very blessed to have the special people around me that God placed in my life.
I am most comfortable with people my age or older. I'm so "out of the loop" with the younger generations! I just can't keep up! Hard to believe I was once one of them!
The Internet is a useful tool in meeting people and making friends, but you do have to be discerning. There are some real whackos out there, some of them will even read this blog! LOL Matter of fact, I met Katie over the Internet almost 6 years ago, and now we are best friends.
I've had some very good friends over the years and they have all had a special place in my heart. I've have been shown some very special kindnesses through financial blessings, laughs, and simple unconditional friendship. Currently my biggest kindness from Katie is that she helps me keep my eyes on Jesus, and she lets me love her kids.
What are some of your thoughts on friendship?

First Job Meme
1) What was your very first job where you received a paycheck? 7) Were you ever "counselled" about your performance on a job? What for? I was only ever counselled once for poor performance and that was as a coupon-counter. My productivity wasn't up to standards apparantly and I spent too much time talking and joking around. I distracted others. I soon moved out of that department and started distracting others somewhere else! Labels: meme
I delivered the Akron Beacon Journal. I lived in the country, so the distance between homes was great. This wasn't so much an issue in the summer when I could ride my bike to deliver, but during winter months or rainy days it wasn't so fun. I think my mom hated when it rained, but she never complained when she would wake up early on Sunday morning to drive me through the route.
2) How old were you?
10 or 11? It was fifth grade
3) Did the job require you to wear a uniform – - take a moment and describe?
no uniform
4) How long did you keep your first job?
I don't remember exactly, possible a year, if I made it that long. I had that route during the winter of 1977-1978 and it was a BAAAAAAAAD winter, BIGTIME blizzard. There were a couple of days I couldn't even deliver the paper because the snow was piled higher than I was tall. No one could go anywhere, so my customers had to do without the news for a few days. Ugh.
I did have the job long enough to earn money to buy a big tent and a 10 speed bike though.
5) When you left your first job was it because you quit or were you fired?
I quit! Delivering papers isn't as easy as it seems!
6) What was your second job?
I started working at the office my mom worked at and was paid out of petty cash. I would do odd jobs just to help out. Some of those odd jobs were pulling staples out of the carpet, filing invoices, and whatever else I was asked to do. All that was fine until I was asked to take on a part-time position as a coupon counter. Coupon-counting was NOT for me!
Let's spread some "It's Blogcess" linky love?

My Senior Year
Found at the Starloft, thanks Jennifer! Labels: meme
What year was it?
1983-84
What were your three favorite bands?
Duran Duran, Rush, The Pride of Highland Marching Band!
What was your favorite outfit?
Jeans and I had this old rawhide pullover shirt that I loved wearing...I think it was inherited from Grand-dad. Loved that leather smell. Then, one day, came the chocolate ice-cream stain. Bummer...wonder what ever happened to that shirt?
What was up with your hair?
It's still basically the same style now! LOL (I've never been one to spend too much time on my hair!) It was a bit lighter though...I used to spend a lot more time outside and in the sun and my hair was more blonde than it is now.
Who were your best friends?
Lynn Hale, Kim Ross, Suzanne Boleman, Jenny Sasala and Lori Eimer
What did you do after school?
Softball or band rehearsal, if there wasn't practice or rehearsal it was General Hospital!
Did you take the bus?
yes, althought I walked a quarter mile daily to catch it, and again to get back home.
Who did you have a crush on?
I can't recall that I did. I don't think I had a crush on anyone my senior year.
Did you fight with your parents?
no
Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?
Kevin Bacon...Footloose!
Did you smoke cigarettes?
never
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?
No, I never used my locker, instead I took over a "slot" in the band room. To this day I sometimes have dreams that I go back to school and just know there is stuff in my locker but I can't recall the combination to get it out!
Did you have a 'clique'?
no, not really.
Did you have "The Max" like Zach, Kelly, and Slater?
who? I have no idea what this is referring to.
Admit it, were you popular?
no, only in my exclusive circle of friends, namely band people.
Who did you want to be just like?
my mom
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Band director (and I was for awhile)
Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?
I never really imagined myself in the future. I still don't.
That was fun!

A Music Meme
Snagged from The Ministry Blog: Ooh; a music meme! and I thought it'd be interesting to tackle: Labels: entertainment, meme
First Record Bought: It was a 45, remember those? Well, for those of you who don't, they were singles on a plastic/vinyl record back in the day. My first 45 was ELO's "Telephone Line". Hello...How are you? Have you been alright, through all those lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely nights?...FLASHBACK!
First Concert: My own 5th grade band concert! HA! No, for real...let's see...I think my very first concert was Barry Manilow on his Swing Street tour.
Favorite Music Movie: Well, I used to enjoy the Sound of Music, but since moving to TN, Katie's kid has watched it (and I'm not kidding) about thirty times. Now it grates on my nerves! I haven't seen too many music movies. There's Grease, but that movie is filled with a lot of crude stuff which knocks it off my favorite list. Ok, I'll go with Aladdin! Fun music, fun movie...it's my favorite! Actually, I just defaulted to it because I can't think of anything else that just stands out.
Favorite Music Book: I really enjoyed reading "A Hard Days Write", a book that catalogers the events and circumstances behind every Beatle's song. It was arranged chronologically and I found it an interesting read.
Favorite Songwriter: Jennifer Knapp, and she's dropped off the planet as of late. I keep praying for her.
Favorite Magazine: CCM
Favorite Album Cover: I've always thought the cover for Bob Seger's "Against the Wind" was so beautiful.
Favorite Teen Idol: I was absolutely fascinated with Andy Gibb! He was soooooo cute!
Artist Who Broke Your Heart: Ummmm, I don't think I've ever had my heart broken by someone I didn't know, although it was depressing to hear about Andy's drug problem, rehab, and subsequent death.
Artist You Will Always Believe In: I don't "believe in" any artist, I just enjoy his/her music.
Singer Who Makes Your Skin Crawl: Eminem
Singer Who Makes You Swoon: I'll get back to you on this one.
Favorite Sound: I kind of like the cowbell in the middle of the bridge of "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns & Roses.
Album You Will Always Defend: I won't defend it, if it's bad, it's bad!
Album You Own That No One Else Does: Icicle Works, at least they don't here in the states.
Classic Album You Own but Don't Like: Tracy Chapman "Tracy Chapman"...I think I listened to it once.
Artist You're Supposed to Like but Don't: Bob Dylan or Neil Young...it's a toss up, while I can appreciate the lyrics, I CAN'T STAND THE SONGS OR THE VOICES THAT GO WITH THEM! Ugh!
Song You Can't Stand by an Artist You Like: "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John...I hated that song the first time I heard and and that darn thing was a blockbuster. It was on the chart for what seemed like forever!
Band That Should Break Up: Dave Matthews Band...the time has come.
Band That Should Re-form: Journey, the Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry, Ross Valory, and Neil Schon line up, as on the album "Escape". LOVE that album!
... and after thinking about it some more, I would love to see Edie Brickell and New Bohemians re-form!
Guilty Pleasure: I'll get back on this one too!
Favorite Music DVD: I don't really enjoy music DVDs.
Concert You Wish You'd Seen: The "One Day" Passion concerts with Chris Tomlin leading worship. I always wanted to attend one of those and missed the one in Memphis a few years ago. Drat.
Dream Collaboration: Since they are married, I'd love to hear a duet with Edie Brickell and Paul Simon.

I'm Not For Sale
I'm not for sale, but if I were I'd cost $1,593,542.00. Good. I'm glad that's settled. Actually, I'm quite surprised that I am worth that much to mankind. Thanks to Susan for the link.
Labels: christianity, meme
I am most concerned with how much I am worth to God.
I am worth more than rubies.
I am worth more than many sparrows.
Am I really worth those things to God? I try to be a good person, but sometimes, probably most of the time, I am not. I am so unworthy of His love. It is simply because God created me in His image, because of His Love, that I have worth.
$1,593,542 sounds pretty good to me! And Katie is worth even more! She tops out at $1,662,530.00. (Hey, wonder what's up with that!?) What makes a person worthy to man? or to God?
Fact is, I am not worthy of God's love. If I love my mom and dad more than Him, I am not worthy of Him. If I don't "take up my cross" I am not worthy. Heck, John the Baptist didn't consider himself worthy to untie Jesus' sandles, so who the heck am I? There is no one that is righteous. We all fall short of the glory of God.
So, mankind would actually pay $1,593,542 for me. It is easy enough to write a check, but what if man had to really sacrifice? What if man had to die for me? Mankind would buy me, but would it die for me? Am I worthy enough to die for? I bet not. Do I have so much worth that another person would actually die in my place? Do I have so much worth that it is more important for me to live, than for that person to live? The world says "no" without a doubt, but, what is interesting is that someone did die for me.
The "world" says "no", I am not worthy, but the Creator of the world said "yes".
In filling out the questionairre that "determined" my worth, I noticed that it didn't really focus much on personality or character. That is all God cares about...my character. My heart. He doesn't care the color of my eyes, how much money I make, or what kind of car I drive. All that matters to Him is that I have a relationship with Him and that I allow Him to transform my heart to His. That my character develops into that of His Son. That's what he looks at to determine my worth.
THAT IS SCARY! He's looking at my heart?!?
How does He measure my character? How does He know my heart? I look over those Ten Commandments and think to myself I break every single one of them daily. I am sooooooooo not worthy.
What is so interesting, and somewhat a dichotomy, is that it is my unworthiness that makes me worthy. Compared to God, nobody is worthy. When God looks at me, He doesn't see my unworthiness. He sees His Son. He sees me through the eyes of His Son who makes me Holy. Woohooo! Jesus creates in me a clean heart.
So, even though I am not good, not worthy, Jesus paid waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than $1,593,542 for me!!
Are you good? <--- interactive flash presentation (hat tip to Shanktified! for the link.)
I'm not for sale, because I have already been bought! <--- really neat flash presentation!!!

Where Were You When...
I first saw this over at Jen Speaks, but followed it back a few generations because the answers are interesting. It fascinates me that we are all going about our lives doing different things, but then one event, one moment, captures our attention and has us all tied in to to same thing.

Brian. Brian said he found it somewhere, but his was the end of the "Where were you when..." chain.
Where Were You When...
1. ... you heard that Ronald Reagan died?
I was driving home from work (FYE in Jackson, TN) on Saturday afternoon and it was on the news. I wasn't too shocked since we all knew it was coming eventually. Since I sometimes catch Michael Reagan's show, I have been sensing that it was getting close to time.
2. ... on September 11, 2001?
I was at work (FYE in Jackson, TN) in the morning before the store opened and Katie called to tell me that a plane went into the World Trade Center. I said something like "hmmmmm, I've heard of planes flying into buildings before. Bad pilot." and basically shrugged it off as a freak accident. I was thinking plane, as in a small two seater plane or something. A little later she called with more urgency because another plane went into the building and that these were jets full of people. Well, at that point I was no longer thinking it was an accident and became quite concerned and immediately got a radio off the shelf and turned it on to listen to news reports. We kept the radio on throughout that dreadful day. Business was very slow, but I had much work to do as we were re-arranging the store. My co-workers and I talked and pondered a lot about what was going on. One co-worker was scared and confused and she couldn't understand why I wasn't freaking out like she was. She wanted to know "why has this happened?" and I had an open door to talk about evil, the consequences of evil and seperation from God.
3. ... you heard that Princess Diana died?
I had just walked in from work (Musicland in Ames, IA) and my roommate had the tv on. She caught me up on the events to that point and we both were glued to the tv for a few days as the events all played out.
4. ... you heard Kurt Cobain had died? I think I heard it on the news one morning getting ready for work when I was a music teacher at Keystone in LaGrange, OH. If memory serves I first heard it from Kurt Loder on MTV.
5. Take one for The Gipper: What’s your favorite flavor of jelly bean? I hate Jelly Beans!
6. ... Magic Johnson announced he was retiring from the NBA due to AIDS? I don't remember exactly, but I remember I was living in Akron, OH and working at Discount Drug Mart as a Pharmacy Technician.
7. ... Reagan was shot? At school at Highland High School in Medina, OH. I was a freshman and I remember hearing tidbits at school and chatting about it on the bus and the walk home. No General Hospital that day, the assassination attempt was the news of the day.
8. ... the Challenger exploded?
In my dorm room in Spanton Hall at the University of Akron. I was watching tv and having lunch in between classes when "we interrupt this broadcast..."
9. Where were you when the 0J verdict was announced?
I took my pocket-sized tv to work (Camelot Music in Traverse City, MI) so that we could witness the verdict "live". We waited and waited and then came the time. I was shocked and disappointed when the verdict was announced. I think it was a very sad day and that justice was not served.
It was interesting and somewhat "fun" to recall these moments from years past.
If we can all unite in these times and be focused on them as news events, as life-altering events, and as historical events, as a Christian, I wonder why all of our attention isn't always focused on Christ. Imagine what it would be like, if for a moment, a day, a week, a lifetime, if we really all were behaving as one family! If we were all focused on Him during each moment of everyday. I guess it would be heaven on earth. Someday it will be so: Philippians 2:10-11 "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

You are a GRAMMAR GOD!
If your mission in life is not already to
preserve the English tongue, it should be.
Congratulations and thank you!
How grammatically sound are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
Found this quiz via Jen Speaks and since I am always complaning about the grammar down here in the south, I thought I could see if I had "the right" to. As expected, I do. I am a Grammar Goddess!

Nine Layers
Grabbed this at Tony's blog, but originally saw it at Michael's. During that time in between I have seen it at numerous blogs, so I'm throwing mine into the mix:

What was...
1. ...your first grade teacher's name? Ummmmmmmm...oh no! It's happening! I'm forgetting this kind of stuff! I think it was Mrs. Smith...but that just doesn't seem right. Mrs. Cobb was kindergarten, Mrs. Hatton second, Mrs. Kofron was third. Mrs. Matthews was fourth, Ms. Demarco was fifth...okay, I'm going with Mrs. Smith in first. I don't see how I can remember all the other grades and not trust myself on this one!
2. ...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon? I don't even remember...I remember not wanting to miss Marlo and the Magic Movie Machine on Sunday mornings though. I'll go with the Roadrunner. Beep Beep!
3. ...the name of your very first best friend? Lynn Hale...I'm not counting all the "best friends" I had as a little kid. Lynn was my first best friend when friends really became important in life during high school.
4. ...your favorite breakfast cereal? Chocolate Crazy Cow...anyone remember Crazy Cow cereal? I loved that stuff! Oh...and what about Grins, Smiles, Giggles and Laughs w/ Cecil? That was another favorite.
5. ...your favorite thing to do after school? I remember when I was in high school rushing home to watch General Hospital and eat Town House Crackers dipped in my hot chocolate. I was hooked on GH during those Luke and Laura years!

You have just won one million dollars: (I'm dreaming right!?!"
1. Who do you call first? Mom and Dad!
2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself? a joystick! I want a joystick!
3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else? A kitchen remodel!
4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom? I would end up giving most of it away...it's what I do now!
5. Do you invest any? If so, how? I'd invest for sure, I'd call Smitty! He does my investment portfolio.
(Wow, my investment portfolio. I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about!)

1. What does it say in the signature line of your emails? I don't have a signature line.
2. Did you have a senior quote in your high school yearbook? What was it? If you haven't graduated yet, what would you like your quote to be? No quote from me!
3. If you had vanity plates on your car, what would they read? If you already have them, what do they say? No vanity plates, but in TN, since we only need tags on the rear of the vehicle, I have a plate that says "Jeepers" (the name my aunt gave this jeep before I inherited it) and "In memory of Pat" on the front.
4. Have you received any gifts with messages engraved upon them? What did the inscription say? It wasn't engraved, but Katie and the kids gave me a Bible a few Christmases ago that she wrote "Dearest Susan, There is more love in these pages than you can fathom. The same goes for the love for you in the hearts of the ones who gave this gift...God's love. May He bless you and grow you every time you read from His book." I love that! Sometimes when I feel down and wonder where God is, I open my bible up to that page and it helps to encourage and remind me about God's love for me.
5. What would you like your epitaph to be? Woohooo! \o/ I'm dancing with Jesus!

1. List five things you'd like to accomplish by the end of the year. FIVE? It is almost the end of the year and I have to come up with FIVE? Well, first on the list I guess will be coming up with FIVE accomplishment goals! Second, spend more time with God. Three, enjoy the framily more. Four, finish reading the bible through this year...we've fallen behind and we need to make up about a week's worth of reading, but I really want to finish that year long goal! And Five? FIVE? Make it through another holiday season in retail!
2. List five people you've lost contact with that you'd like to hear from again. I guess old friends from high school and college...Lori Eimer, Jenny Sasala and Kim Ross were three high school band buddies that would be fun to catch up with. From college I think it would be fun to meet up again with Doug McInerney, a guy I dated for a short while and I also think it would be cool to catch up with my old college roommate Denise D'Andrea, wonder whatever happened to her? It is amazing to remember back to the days when these people were a part of my life every single day, and now I think more than ten, maybe fifteen years have gone by. I'm so glad I appreciated my friendships throughout the years, I have always been mindful that some people come in to my life just for a season.
3. List five things you'd like to learn how to do. Fly a plane! I want to fly someday! I'd like to learn how to be a radio personality, or at least do my own radio show for a spell, just for fun! I'd like to learn more about computers and all the stuff that goes into web design. I'd like to learn to love people more and myself less. I'd like to learn all I can about Jesus!
4. List five things you'd do if you won the lottery (no limit). Well, I seem to give away what I have now, so I'd probably give that all away too. I would buy stuff for myself though, to be sure! I want to get a joystick for my computer gaming habit and I'd want to fix the broken things in my house. I'd make sure my family and framily was taken care of financially and the rest I'd give away!
5. List five things you do that help you relax. Being online! NO kidding, I can really veg and relax surfing blogs and the news online. I also enjoy reading my apologetics books, bible studies and the bible itself. Listening to music is another way I can relax. I'd probably really relax if I'd pray more. I can't think of another thing that I do to help me relax...maybe go out for breakfast? Sitting there talking over my cup of coffee is rather relaxing.

1. What food do you like that most people hate? I really don't have many of these...I guess what grosses Katie out the most is the fact that I will eat Oatmeal...dry.
2. What food do you hate that most people love? Pizza, I HATE PIZZA! The only thing I do like about it is the dough. Can't deal with cheese, the sauce or anything that will go on top!
3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you? George Clooney...I can't stand the man! I'm really annoyed by the slight tilt of his head to one side. It was noticeable especially on ER.
4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find
attractive? Gee, I really can't think of any. I'll go with Patrick Stewart...bald is beautiful on that guy!
5. What popular trend baffles you? I think the current trend in fashion when it comes to pants. The real low cut waistline. I see the bellies of some people who has NO business showing their bellies! Those low-cut waistlines should not be worn by the majority of people, in my opinion.

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones? Not as much as I used to. I won't pay for cable, so I get one station here locally. There are very little opportunities to watch sports. Since "my" teams wouldn't be programmed, I have little interest anyway.
2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes? Cleveland Indians and the Browns are my favorite teams because I grew up on them. I don't watch them because I basically have no tv, but when I have the chance I can listen to them on WTAM 1100 "The Monster on the Lake" out of Cleveland. One day I hope to actually witness them win a Championship!
3. Are there any sports you hate? I can't say "hate", but basketball annoys me at times. "A bunch of men running up and down a court with squeaky tennis shoes" is how one of my friends describes it. I do think the basketball season is too long and the playoffs take forever, so that annoys me.
4. Have you ever been to a sports event? Yes, I've seen the Indians play and the Browns at the old Municipal Stadium which is gone now. It's been years since I've been to a game. The last one I was at would have been the Iowa Barnstormers, an arena football team. Cool thing is Kurt Warner was the QB at the time!
5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play?" I was in marching band for four years in high school and two in college. I know it's not a "sport", however, if you've ever been in marching band, you know full well that it is an athletic activity. Also, I played a lot of softball. I played since I was nine years old until my back surgery put an end to that "career" when I was about 24. I loved softball and played on any and every team that would have me! I miss it.

Friday Five
the friday five with yet another set of questions for those of us at a loss as to what the heck to blog!
Labels: meme
1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why? I can't say that I have a favorite because it seems I have a few. When I think about who it is I most look forward to hearing something new from, it would be Jennifer Knapp and maybe the Indigo Girls. I really enjoy the music these artists put out and I also have more respect for artists that create their own music. They write their own stuff and usually it's written intelligently and thoughtfully. They are professional musicians and are very good at playing their instruments. I wouldn't necessarily call any of their voices angelic, but it is how they use their voice in their music that is impressive to me. It's not always about having the most beautiful voice, but sometimes it's how it's used.
2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why? There are many that I can't stand! Mostly I can't stand a musician because I don't like their music (most "pop" stuff like Backstreet Boys, NSync, Plus One, etc.) or I don't necessarily appreciate their public persona (Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson, etc). I really really really can't stand music in which the lead singer screeches and screams like a demon. I have even heard that kind of stuff in Christian music (12 Stones - I know, I know...mainstream) and don't like it there either. That's not music to me. It seems unnecessary. It's scary!
3. If your favorite singer wasn't in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person? I have no idea because I really don't know what my favorite artists are like off stage. I've met Jennifer Knapp and she seems cool enough, I think we could hang out one afternoon and chat, but who really knows if our personalities would "click". I really get the impression that Rebecca St. James is a Godly young woman and seems to really have a heart for God, from the interviews I've seen her in. She is someone who really seems to be on stage the same person she is off stage. There really is no way to know.
4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show? I've been to a few. I think that one concert that is very memorable for me was when I was dragged to a Bruce Springsteen concert. I really didn't like "the Boss" or his music, but my best friend was "in love" with him. I went to his show in Cleveland back in the 1980's for the Born in the Usa tour and was blown away! That man really puts on a show! Wow! I gained a new appreciation for him and his music that day and when he came back around for his next tour, I went voluntarily that time! He's a true rock n' roller and a great entertainer. Another performer I really enjoyed was Jim Brickman. Quite a change of pace huh!? LOL Jim Brickman is America's newest romantic piano sensation. I went to his show in Des Moines, IA in 1998 and really didn't know what to expect. I had some free tickets and thought "what the heck". That night was so much fun. Brickman was an awesome storyteller and a great musician. He had me laughing so much! I think I laughed more at his stories than I had at some comedians I had paid to see! His music is so melodic and romantic and fantastic! He has been very successful in his recording career that started out writing some of the letter jingles for Sesame Street, and commercial jingles like "GE we bring good things to life" and "Don't treat your puppy like a dog dog dog..." I really enjoyed that show and if ever the opportunity arises, I'd recommend you check him out. Oh, and before I went to his concert, I had no idea he was a native of Cleveland, OH! It was an interesting surprise to learn that some of his songs were written about places I knew!
5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music? I think it is wrong as I've posted about before. I am glad to know that record labels finally got a clue and are lowering the prices. I will enjoy marking prices down in my store because I really believe it is long overdue. I think many people will opt to spend a reasonable amount on purchasing CD's ($5-$10) rather than burn them. I do believe the RIAA is right to pursue those who flagrantly violate the copyright law. It will be interesting to see how this stuff can actually be enforced. I am most bothered by society in that many people really can not understand why stealing is not wrong?

Friday Five - What's in a Name?
1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed? It is exactly the same name as on my birth certificate.
Labels: meme
2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be? I can change my name, but I don't want to.
3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?) I've been told that before I was seen I was going to be named something else. I was adopted and my parents had the name Sandra picked out for me, but once they saw me they said "she doesn't look like a Sandra" so my name became Susan. I think possibly it came from my Aunt Pat (Patricia Susan)?
4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why? I dislike names like Destiny, Star, and Tomorrow because the parents are trying to sound "new agey" or cool or something and really they are not.
5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it? Not even close!
"Your first name of Susan has given you a pleasant, easy-going, friendly nature. (That's about the only statement here that is correct!)Personal contacts are important to you. In situations where you are serving others, demonstrating or instructing, you have the patience (NOT!) to go into details (I do like to get all the details that others miss) that someone else may not think to be important. In your association with others, you are often limited to the more mundane happenings and little personal problems that can be so frustrating to those of an active, dynamic nature. You desire to create system and order in your environment but are inclined to become side-tracked and socialize (I do not have a tendency to socialize in favor of getting work done...this is in no way a problem for me!) when you should be working. Your ambitions are not large, as you lack confidence (I do not have a confidence problem, matter of fact, it may be just the opposite.) in your own abilities and would sooner not take a chance. You are often at odds with yourself, knowing what you should do, but finding it hard to find the initiative and will power to do it. Liking to plan and think ahead, you do not act impulsively and do not like to have your plans or routine interfered with. You seek the advice of others when making a decision (I find that others can sometimes complicate things more!) and prefer to work for others, rather than carry the full responsibility yourself. No one can do things better and more time efficient than me! Nope, this is definately NOT an accurate analysis! This name limits imagination and vision."
Thanks to Friday Five for the questions this week!

The Friday Five from Sue:
Labels: meme
1. How much time do you spend online each day?
Lots! About 3-6 hours if I am working and if I am off, I am on for many, many, many hours...maybe 8-12!
2. What is your browser homepage set to?
My Weather
3. Do you use any instant messaging programs? If so, which one(s)? AOL IM "Wah00Sue" (the o's are zeros), and sometimes I turn on ICQ "17088030". I used to use ICQ almost exclusively when I played Hardball 6 online, but that era has ended. I am AOL IM nightly, excluding nights I work, from about 8:00 pm-10:00 pm Central Time, to talk to my Ma.
4. Where was your first webpage located? I had two, they were mirrors. Xoom was my first one though, and the one I paid attention to. It is now defunct. It's a bummer to put so much work into the site and then have it disappear one day. I also had one at Geocities, but let that go. Wonder whatever happened to it?
5. How long have you had your current website? I got it started up and running the late summer of 2000. Added a blog in September 2002.

Friday Five
Katie answers the Friday Five...(forgot to sign in under MY name...duh!)
Labels: meme
1. What's the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country? I took the kids to visit my father's side of the family in Massachusetts in June. This was our first time there in five years.
2. What's the most bizarre/unusual thing that's ever happened to you while traveling? Well, when I was moving Sue here, she had a bad cold. When we were almost home, I stopped for a potty break. I tried to wake Sue up but I couldn't. So I began to panic because I thought she was dead. I can't remember how I found out she was alive. I think I just shook her really hard and yelled. But, I may have just checked to see if she was breathing. I was really freaking out because my mind got carried away imagining what I was going to say to her parents and how I was going to deal with it all. (I was really worn out from all the driving and it was late.)
3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go? I would love to go to Hawaii but if time and money were no object, why stop there? Why not just take a cruise to see the world?
4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car? I love to fly!!!!!!
5. What's the next place on your list to visit? I know what Sue will say to this one. I don't know where my next place to visit will be but I hope it will be in Vermont for a horse drawn sleigh ride in the snow just before Christmas. I would love to stay at a bed and breakfast type place while I'm there. However, that is not likely. In reality, I hope to travel just a few cities over to Memphis to visit the Salvation Army's House of Hope for women. It's a Christian run recovery/rehabilitation center for women who are victims of abuse and addiction. I want to learn how to help women to recover and rebuild from abusive/dysfunctional living. That is why I'm back in school after all these years.

1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings? Normally, if I haven't been working way too much, I will wake up around 8 or 8:30 on my days off or on the days I don't go in until noon. When I work, I get up around 6:30 am.
2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late? Not usually because I usually work Saturdays and if I have Sundays off I get up for church around 7:30-7:45 am. Sleeping in for me is usually 8:00 am. That is how I determined that I got old!
3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning? Head to the bathroom! Then turn on the computer and let the dogs out.
4. How long does it take to get ready for your day? about 30 minutes
5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast? Cathey's Restaurant in Trenton! Matter of fact we are going this morning! Woooohooooo! It's a small town family type restaurant, and the best waitress in the world, Faye, works there and we are such regulars, that the cook starts making my shredded hashbrowns as soon as we walk in!

1. When was the last time you cheated? Well, if it's in school, I can't even remember! I'll go with the fact that I fill out paperwork as though I've been keeping up with it all along at work could be considered cheating. You know, the old use different pens and colors, use different style handwriting, give it that "used" look, just in time for the store audit.
2. When was the last time you stole? Well, does it count if I "accidently" stole something? Way back when I was in a Spencer's Gifts. I picked up something (I don't remember what) and thought about purchasing it. I continued browsing around the store, but eventually left. I had wandered around the mall for a good while before I realized I still had that item from Spencer's! I immediately headed back to the store and put the item back. I didn't get caught, but I could have and now that I manage a store I realize how foolish I would've sounded saying "I forgot I had it."
3. When was the last time you lied? I'm basically an honest person, but I guess when people call to check on applications and I tell them "I'll pull it out take a look at it and get back to you if need be." Often, but not always, I do take their name, pull out the app.
4. When was the last time you broke or vandalized another's property? Well, I broke Katie's lamp one day kicking my shoe off my foot at the top of the stairs. So, it went a little further than I expected and in the totally wrong direction. It wasn't intentional or anything. The last intentional thing happened, when I was a kid I had a bad case of cranial rectal inversion (CRI) and took a stone to the paint on my dad's car. I drew some pretty neat designs I think. Dad didn't think so. I had to work that one off! I cried A LOT!
5. When was the last time you hurt a loved one? Probably today when I got snippy because of the chaos around the house. TVs, video games, kids singing, whistling and fighting while Katie and I try to have a conversation. It drives me crazy!

Daily Biscuit
There are a lot of memes out there. I know a lot of people participate in the Friday Five. Friday Five is decent and obviously a lot of people enjoy using it as a "springboard" for topics on their blogs, but I have found the topics over at Gooddogbaddog more appealing. Owen creates an atmosphere that helps readers ponder their faith and other things about their spiritual walk. Sometimes it's serious, sometimes its filled with wit. I wanted to recommend that you take a look at Gooddogbaddog and bite a few Daily Biscuits.

Daily Biscuit for today, or *ahem* yesterday: Describe your Faith as a Garment
Your faith is a garment. It is any article of clothing. Put it on. Describe it; how it fits, how it feels, what is its substance, its appearance.
Looking in a mirror at you in your faith, what do you see? How do others see you in it?
I love this stuff...Owen always gives me something to ponder. I also get to excercise some creative writing and really think. so...here goes nothing!
My faith is a well-worn pair of faded blue jeans. There are no holes, the material is just soft because the stiffness of the cotton has been loosened from many washings. This is my favorite pair of jeans!
My faith is always with me, just like my favorite pair of jeans. Even though I don't always wear them, they lie waiting in the dresser drawer. My faith is always here, even though at times it may not be seen by others, and sometimes unfortunately, I may not put it on.
At one point my faith was new. Colors were bright! (I posted something about that on a previous Daily Biscuit. As I settled into my new life in faith...colors, while still vibrant, tend to fade into everyday life. Not a bad thing...just different. Also, as I grow in the faith I am continually being renewed and washed daily through the Holy Spirit and God's Mercy and Forgiveness. This is why I compare my faith to faded jeans...well-worn, as is my faith, and needing to be washed a lot!
When I put on my jeans, they feel soft, and comfortable. Over the years they have comformed to my shape and fit perfect; (this means they have stretched! LOL) and like my jeans conformed to fit me, I, myself, am being conformed by my faith and hope to fit perfect someday. The bible promises in Philippians 1:6 "that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Sometimes I know that others see my faith in me and see how well it fits. Other times I am not so sure. Most of the time my faith looks good on me, but there are those times when my weaknesses show and my faith is in need of a good cleaning. Yesterday would be an example of that in the words I chose to describe a certain encounter with a rude customer to an employee. At that point my faith shone through a hole in my jeans and left grass stains!
I want to wear my faith like my favorite pair of jeans. Soft and comfortable and something that fits well. Oh, and has pockets too...someplace to keep all the treasures I'm storing up!
